A weekend singing in tongues

I’ll tell you what I want what I really really want

For those of you that follow me on Instagram you may be intrigued by my seemingly nomadic lifestyle (‘Like what on earth is she doing here there and everywhere’). You’ll be glad to know there is a method to the movement. It is that I am wanderlusting with the wind...Pah! Just joking. I am still based in Paris and working a lot in London. Certain jobs I pick up require me to travel and artistic and faith lead interests lead me to specific places. One of those places this past weekend was Newark. Not the NYC airport, no, but rather the midlands of England 😁

An annual Holy Spirit extravaganza descended on the midlands of the green English pastures. What a friggin hoot it was. Amidst the backdrop of the England team winning the Euro cup and the news that so many more churches were being planted in the UK and internationally spirts were high in hope at HTB FOCUS. It surpassed all my expectations of what us rowdy freaky Jesus lovers get up to. To all those that know us as Jesus freaks maybe we do live up to our labels. I saw people of all ages boogie on up as if they’d had 10 shots of tequila. It was refreshing.

Church leaders being crowd surfed!

For me, it was a weekend of singing in tongues. Unexpected gifts of praise erupting from my soul. Swimming love in a thick atmosphere of surrender and delight.

For those that have no idea what tongues are, listen to Kanye’s Donda album. He’s peppered tongues throughout the tracks (Come to life if my fave). Katy Perry said in a Rolling Stone interview that speaking in tongues is as normal to her as ‘pass the salt’. Hmmm now I think about it this is probably where she got her inspiration for Roar!

Tongues is a spiritual language that erupts from your core to your mouth and out. Similar to a jazz scat, a flurry of notes and sounds are catapulted from the unlocked subconscious. Sounds and unique rhythms that may or may not be syncopated burst out with gusto. It’s rock n roll at its best. The only thing is that I can’t control when it comes! So this weekend felt like it was such a gift. A deep rest into surrender.

So yeah recently I’ve able to live between Paris and London. It has felt like a gift. I’d missed being in London. I find both cities are a cultural bonfire, ablaze with events and movements, unmatched globally in grandeur and elegance. Both have so much diversity of cultures. It’s inspiring to meet so many nationalities in one place. There is a tension however to so much movement. My hybrid nomadic lifestyle, living in these busy cities, getting caught up in the endless possibilities of doing has made it necessary to plug into deep rest and refilling in a spiritual sense. My good friend who is a performer in NYC recently shared with me he feels the same need. It‘s vital to make space and g et replenished.

So I wanted to conclude with this: whatever routine, lifestyle you are in, know that you are not alone in the bounce. There are many of us not sticking to 9 - 5 so ‘We-Are-Family'as the song goes. Take time, make space to be immersed in the depth of your creative flow. Peace out to receive inspiration and guidance. I HIGHLY recommend reading, following the steps of The Artist Way by Julia Cameron. It’s for everyone. And if by chance you find yourself speaking in tongues, even better. Hee hee hee. Holy ballin’.
